CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND THE OFFICIAL DECREE As you all know, back on September 1 the Sweet Rejoicing Choir and the parishioners who were worshipping at the one Mass at St. Maria Goretti Parish/St. Lawrence Church moved to St. Maria Goretti Parish/Immaculate Conception Church. The two primary reasons for this move were that the roof was leaking and plaster falling in multiple places making sections of the church unsafe and as a parish we do not have the funds to replace the roof; and also we have multiple buildings that make up St. Maria Goretti Parish and can certainly care for the needs of all of our parishioners. Change is never easy and it was not easy for those who had worshipped at St. Lawrence Church building to make the move, but it seems that the transition has gone well and we appreciate the sacrifices that have been made for the good of our parish. Related to those changes, I’ve received the news this past week that Bishop Zubik has accepted our petitions to formally close Saint St. Lawrence O’Toole Church building. Copies of the decree will be posted in the back of Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph Church buildings, and, during this time of limited opening of our churches, they will also be available for you to see in the parish office and on our parish website (www.olasmg.org). All of those persons and families who helped lay the foundations of the faith at St. Lawrence O’Toole parish, and have brought the spirit of that faith to St. Maria Goretti Parish, have our prayers and gratitude. They are not forgotten as we move on with our process of becoming a new, unified parish for the neighborhoods of Bloomfield, Garfield and Lawrenceville. While these were difficult decisions, we know that Christ will enliven our hearts and minds to share God’s love and joy going forward. We are a pilgrim people and are not home yet. Bro. John D. Our Pantry is completely voluntary. It takes about 18-33 volunteers a month, (4 interviewers; 8 volunteers working in the back packing 800 or so bags of food a month, and unloading 9,000 to 12,000 pounds of food and supplies a month; and 6-8 volunteers who pick up bread on Sunday mornings from Giant Eagle), to accomplish this feat of feeding over 500 people each and every month. Please consider joining us!
As part of the Pastoral Plan proposed that a means be established to allow parishioners to make their prayer intentions known so that we can unite in praying for each other's intentions. There is a Prayer Intention Box on the table in the back of Our Lady of the Angels Church and you are invited to write your intentions on a slip of paper and place them in the box.
As part of the On Mission Implementation, our grouping of St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady of the Angels Parishes, has through May to collect feedback on the Interim Mass schedule. It is now time for our grouping to collect written feedback from parishioners. The following survey will assist parish leadership in evaluating, and if necessary, adjusting the Interim Mass schedule.
